Residents Advisory Group
In 2023, Hawksbury residents recognised the need for an advisory group where they could share feedback on what’s working well and suggest areas for improvement.
To address this, a Resident Advisory Group was formed in each region, supported by Sarah Brennan (Regional Manager) and Kim Morton (CEO). Since its creation, the group has already led several positive changes:
- Early on, residents expressed discomfort with the term "Intellectual Disability," feeling it was a label. After thoughtful discussion, they agreed that "Learning Disability" was a better fit.
- The group reviewed Hawksbury's vision statement, "Your Life, Your Way." After much conversation, they unanimously decided to adopt a new vision: "My Life, My Choice."
- The term "Dreams and Aspirations" has been updated to "Goals and Achievements" to better reflect residents' perspectives.
- They’ve also developed a set of questions that residents can ask potential staff members during site visits.
Currently, the Resident Advisory Group is working on a resident survey to gather feedback. This survey will be trialled first and then rolled out across Hawksbury.
We're excited about the positive changes this group is driving and look forward to continuing to support our residents in shaping their experience at Hawksbury.
